In order to be a part of our Competitive Program, students must be between the ages of 6-18 years and attend an audition in late May/early June for the upcoming season. Those new students who are unable to attend the actual audition or have missed it, may inquire to set up an alternate audition day and time so that they may be placed appropriately.
Those students wishing to compete in Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Lyrical, Modern/Contemporary, Musical Theatre or Acro must take a minimum of one Ballet class per week (2-3 classes for certain ages/levels) as well as the Stretch & Conditioning class. Those students who wish to compete in Hip Hop do not need to take either class, however they are recommended.
Rehearsals for our Competitive Program usually take place outside of regular class days and times on the weekends. (Please note that rehearsals are usually scheduled every second or third weekend, however depending on the month, there may be some back to back rehearsals scheduled due to long weekends, holidays and other studio events.) Rehearsals will commence in late September/early October. Schedules for September/October-December will be available in September and schedules for January-April will be available in December.
We usually participate in three competitions/festivals in Alberta (two out of town and one here in Calgary). Students must participate in all three competitions/festivals in order to be a part of the program. Our Dress Rehearsal is mandatory for our Competitive Program students.
There are extra costs involved in this program, which include Competition Choreography fees, costume fees, Competition Entry Fees for the actual competitions/festivals, travel costs (gas, parking, food, accommodations, audience fees for some competitions/festivals, etc.), photos, etc.
